Ps 3
Badness
I love this quote from CS Lewis via @JohnPiper:
“Bad people know little about badness. They live sheltered lives by always giving in to temptation. Resisters know.”
Sobering
From Matt Chandler’s recent sermon, “The Reign and Rule of God” -
If my words abide in you
Most influential sermon for me in 2009:
John Piper – If My Words Abide in You – January 4, 2009
Of all the sermons I listened to in 2009, this one had the biggest impact on me. I’ve listened to it multiple times and it continues to challenge me and I highly recommend it.
I love to think of God like this
RT John Piper:
“God never does only one thing. In everything he does he is doing thousands of things. Of these we know perhaps half a dozen.”
Work of God
36 days until Christmas
RT @fakejohnpiper:
“36 idolatry days left till Christmas. Which you’ll probably also be idolatrous on.”
This guy is funny!
Penn (of Penn and Teller) on proselytizing:
Transcript is below.
“I’ve always said that I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe that there’s a heaven and a hell, and people could be going to hell or not getting eternal life, and you think that it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward—and atheists who think people shouldn’t proselytize and who say just leave me along and keep your religion to yourself—how much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?
“I mean, if I believed, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you, and you didn’t believe that truck was bearing down on you, there is a certain point where I tackle you. And this is more important than that.”
Guidance
From Tim Keller’s sermon “A World of Idols:”
“In general, when you ask the Bible for guidance, the Bible does not tell you how to get God’s guidance. It tells you the kind of person that discerns the will of God.”
